The Good Shepherd Window

The Lord is my Shepherd, I shall not want. ~ Psalm 23:1 I am the good shepherd. The good shepherd lays down his life for the sheep . . . I am the good shepherd. I know my own and my own know me, just as the Father knows me and I know the Father. ~ John 10:11, 14-15 This window also can echo Jesus’ teaching in Luke 15, when he said, “What man of you, having a hundred sheep, if he lost one of them, does not leave the ninety and nine in the wilderness and go after the one which is lost until he find it? And when he finds it, he lays it on his shoulders rejoicing.” On side panels we see a cluster of grapes and a sheath of wheat. These represent what they can become, wine and bread, elements for Communion. This window is in memory of Niles Center pioneers Nicholas and Elizabeth Meyer, donated by Mrs. Louise Hufmeyer, their daughter. It was put in during St. Peter’s 40th anniversary celebration under the Rev. Paul Hausmann in 1908. Although the Meyers died before St. Peter’s was officially begun in 1867, they lie buried in the St. Peter’s U.C.C. Cemetery on Harms Road.
