Jesus Blesses the Little Children

Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them, for to such belongs the kingdom of God. ~ Mark 10:14 This window was dedicated in 1927 in loving memory of George C. Klehm, one of the pioneers of Niles Center and one of the founders of this church. Mr. Klehm died in 1927. Note that it is by the old baptismal font, where children (as well as youth and adults) are received by the Church through baptism. It has also been suggested that the youngish looking person alongside the disciples on the left is John. John was believed to be the youngest disciple (he did beat Peter in a footrace to the tomb on Easter) and that is why he is often given more feminine features. Mr. Klehm, who is also buried in the church cemetery, was one of those who helped found St. Peter’s Evangelical Lutheran Church, Skokie’s first church. This happened following discussions with Peter Blameuser, who agreed to sell us this half-acre of land for $50 and a pledge to name the new church after his patron saint, St. Peter. The next year Blameuser gave two acres of land to the Archdiocese of Chicago to start St. Peter Catholic Church – provided the church be named after his patron saint, St. Peter!
