Worship Schedule
Worship begins at 10:00 AM every Sunday throughout the year. From September through May we have coffee hour in the Fellowship Hall following the serivce until about noon. Sunday school begins with Chapel at 9:00 AM every Sunday from September through May. Then students break into age-defined classess at 9:15 AM and are finished in time for church.
Worship and Education
Our Sunday morning worship service is fairly traditional, with occasional changes-of-pace, such as Readers Theater and dialogue sermon presentations. We have one Adult Choir. We celebrate the Lord's Supper the first Sunday of every month and at other times like Christmas Eve. Baptisms are celebrated after consulting with the Pastor. A Nursery is provided year-round; both it and the sanctuary are air-conditioned. In addition, there are brief midday services on Wednesday's during Lent.
Worship Amenities
Our sanctuary is air-conditioned in the Summer. We offer large print bulletins and infrared hearing assists; just ask an usher for them when they give you a bulletin!
Congregation
St. Peter's United Church of Christ is a congregation with membership a little over 300, and is a mainline Protestant church. Our congregation has people of all ages. We have a variety of theological and political opinions in our number; and are no longer an all-Anglo congregation, as we seek to reflect the diversity of our community. We are Skokie's very first church, and at 140+ years old, we are still going strong!
Location
We are right in the heart of downtown Skokie, IL, just outside of Chicago. We are right across Oakton Street from the Village Hall and Skokie Library. For a map and driving directions, CLICK HERE.
Parking
In addition to street parking, there is a parking lot immediately east of the church building where you can park on weekends. The entrance to this is off of Floral Avenue. Overflow parking is across Floral Street to the east. There are entrances tot he church on the East near the parking lot, on the West on Laramie Avenue, and the big wooden church doors on Oakton Street.
Nursery
There is an attended Nursery every Sunday, which is air conditioned in the summer. The closest entrance to it is the Laramie Avenue entrance on the West End of the building (enter and go up the stairs).
Office Hours
The Church Office is open Tuesday through Friday, 9:00 A.M. to 2 P.M.
Chairlift
There is an electric chairlift in the East stairwell, which runs up to the sanctuary. Someone is always there to operate it both before and after worship.
